Polish dances - Polonaise and Slavic dance

Polonaise - by the Polish students

A popular Polish dance. The Polonaise originated as a peasant dance, recorded as early as the 15th century, but it later gained popularity among the nobility. It is danced in schools at balls preceding graduation, especially during senior prom (studniówka). The dance is also associated with the Polish fight for independence and struggle to preserve our culture during the partitions of Poland. It also appears in works of literature, most notably in "Pan Tadeusz" (Sir Thaddeus).

Slavic dance by the Polish students

Slavic dance from the period of Viking attacks. War and celebration were key elements of a Viking's life and this dance is a perfect example of the latter.
The dance was taught to our students as part of our Erasmus+ project "Invaders - how they shaped the Europe of today".
