Metsäkylän koulu is situated in Ylöjärvi, Finland. It is very close to Tampere, which is the biggest city in the area.
We have about 450 students in our school this school year. Students are 1st- 6th graders, 7-13 years of age. At the moment, our school functions in two locations. 18 classes are at the main school and four at the old school. We will soon have a major construction site at our school campus - our school will become a 1st - 9th grade school with over 750 student.
We have 22 class teachers, two full time language teachers, four special ed teachers and six classroom helpers. Our principal is Ari Anttila. We also have a school secretary, a school nurse, janitor, a cleaning crew and a kitchen crew.
Our school year is about 190 days. We start school no later than mid August and finish at the end of May or the first week of June. We usually have longer holidays in October (one week), at Christmas (about two weeks), at the end of February (one week) and around Easter (longer weekend). School can start at 8 am, 8:45 am or 10 am. Finishing times also vary. Each day of the week has a different schedule
Within the school year, we have all sorts of theme days either arranged by the teachers or by the student council. Most of these theme days are all school events, when we get together to do things together.
